If you are seeking a super simple, but elegant summer hors d’oeuvre, you might try some grilled brie. Brie is a soft, creamy pale gold cheese with an edible rind of white mold. It originates in France, from the region of Seine-et-Marne. Made from cows’ milk, it is a great source of protein and comes in several varieties. When warm, its buttery flavor is complemented by the sweetness of fruit and the crunch of toasted nuts.

Barbecued Brie Cheese With Fruit Recipe Instructions
barbecued brie with fruit recipe
Ingredients
Directions
- 1 round brie cheese of you choice
- Fruit of choice (raspberries, apricots, strawberries, or mango are all tasty choices) Fruit jam is another choice. Do not use jelly.
- Ground nuts of choice (almonds, walnuts, pecans)
Directions
- Normally when preparing warmed brie topped with fruit, I bake it in the oven for about 15- 20 minutes at 400 degrees. Since it is summertime, it is fun to use the barbecue grill.
- Use a large piece of aluminum foil and wrap the brie wheel topped with fruit and nuts and wrap it securely. You can wrap it a second time to prevent juices from leaking.
- Put the foil package directly on the grill and wait for it to puff out slightly.
- Remove it from the grill and unwrap the foil.
- Do not try to remove the foil from directly underneath as it may cause the cheese wheel to become an oozy, gooey mess.
- Serve with crackers or toasted bread. Zak’s choice of melamine plates are perfect for summertime. They are decorative and don’t break on your patio or beach.
