Oatmeal Cone: Ice cream cone filled with maple oatmeal, bananas and a few sprinkles on top

Getting out of the door is never an easy task for my girls, especially since school has started. They go to different schools and my oldest needs to be there every morning at 8:45. Luckily, my oldest is an early riser and can get herself dressed in the morning if I lay out her clothes. She eats while I get my youngest daughter dressed for the day. My youngest is a challenge because she loves her sleep, and I often wait to the very last minute to wake her. The morning routine can be very hectic so breakfast needs to be planned out so that if I have to take breakfast-on-the-go for my youngest, I can.

Some tips and ideas for breakfast-on-the-go:

  • Prepare the food ahead of time. I start thinking about what the girls are going to have for breakfast the night before and often prepare it that night. Pancakes, hard-boiled eggs, cutting fruit are all easy to prepare the evening before.
  • Make sure you have a food storage container that is easy to eat from.My girls are funny about certain foods touching each other. If your container doesn’t have dividers, cupcake liners can be used. Ice cream cones are also great for taking yogurt, fruit and oatmeal on-the-go.
  • Don’t leave home without plenty of wipes, napkins or paper towels. On-the-go eating can get pretty messy.

A few of our favorite on-go-breakfasts:

The Ultimate Breakfast Mix: Cottage Cheese, hard-boiled egg, tomato, and pickles or cucumber

Humpty Dumpty Morning Fun: Hard-boiled egg, use food coloring on the tip of a toothpick to draw the face, use cheese for the arms and legs, and strawberries for the wall

Cinnamon Toast Crunchie Munchie: Fage Greek Yogurt, a handful of cinnamon toast cereal, and cut-up bananas or apples
