These cookies are packed with delicious spices and molasses and just smell amazing as they bake and look great on a Zak Serving Tray. If you didn’t know what time of the year it was and walked into a house where these cookies were baking, you would immediately know it was the holidays. I used a lot of spices in these bad boys but they all add something nice to the cookies so I wouldn’t recommend leaving any out. I guess you could leave out the crystallized ginger since that’s kind of an extra, but I like the little crunch they give the cookies.

  • 1 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground allspice
  • 1 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/3 cup dark molasses
  • 1/2 cup white sugar, for rolling
  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Whisk together flour, baking soda, salt, gingers, cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, and allspice.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together butter and brown sugar until it’s light and fluffy, about 4-5 minutes.
  3. Using a mixer, mix in egg and molasses and mix until smooth.
  4. Add the dry ingredients and mix until the flour isn’t showing. Try not to over mix the dough.
  5. When the dough is mixed, scoop out tablespoon-sized balls of the dough and roll them in sugar. Place cookies on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. You should get about 3 dozen cookies.
  6. Bake cookies at 350 degrees F. for 9-10 minutes until the cookies are cracking around the edges.
  7. Remove and let cookies cool for a few minutes on the baking sheets.
