Summer Sustainability: Starting a Home Garden

Grow Your Own Way!

With summer in full swing and the weather warming up, it’s a great time to be outdoors. And what nicer way is there to spend the time than creating your very own home garden?

Outdoor Gardening

Having a home garden does more than just allow us to get outdoors and enjoy some fresh air; gardening is also a great way to provide fresh produce and greenery all year round. In addition to spending time outdoors and having fresh food, there are many other benefits that come from having a home garden. According to UNC Health, gardening can reduce stress while building self-esteem and making you happier. It can also be a great family activity. Working in the soil with kids is a wonderful bonding experience that can teach kids about sustainability and where their food comes from. It might even help them try new foods!

Indoor Opportunities

You may be thinking, but what if I’m short on space, or don’t have a yard? Lucky for you, those aren’t required to have a garden—all you need is a sunny windowsill or balcony. With these, you now have what it takes to start an indoor succulent garden. Succulents are low maintenance plants that are easy to care for, making them perfect for those just starting a garden. If you like cooking, an indoor herb garden is a great way to add fresh ingredients to any home-cooked meal. To really spruce up the place, you can plant these succulents and herbs in your very own zak! character mug or zak! Confetti soup bowls!

Don’t Forget the Water!

Planting the garden is only the first step. Remember to maintain and care for your plants, making sure they receive the proper amount of water and sunlight. While you’re at it, don’t forget to stay hydrated yourself, especially when gardening outdoors. And what better way is there to do so than with a zak! vacuum insulated water bottle or tumbler? These bottles will work to keep your beverage cold in the summer heat. When paired with the Flex lid from the Genesis collection, you can make sure that the soil stays with your plants and not in your drink, thanks to its watertight design and push-button spout cover!
